Police website now contains map plus a list of those arrested and more info
Taft Police are making it easier for the public to keep up with crime in the community.
The city's new website includes a link to a crime mapping site that includes a lot of information about police activity in the community.
It's making Taft one of a relative handful of California communities with the new crime mapping software that show where crimes are being investigated in the community, as well as who has been arrested and a daily bulletin.
Chief of Police Ed Whiting demonstrated the new website to the Taft City Council Tuesday night.
It is on the city's website –"www.cityoftaft.org.
To get to the new police pages, just click on the departments link at the top of the home page and pick police department.
Once your on the police page, click on the crimemapping link on the left side of the page and it takes you to a map of the city with markers for recent crimes and accidents reported. Whiting said the map will be updated with a delay, so it won't contain real-time information.
There are links to see who got and arrested and on what charges, with mug shots, plus a link to a daily activity bulletin (identical to the one published each day on Taftmidwaydriller.com) that is updated each morning at 7 a.m.
The police web page also includes a comprehensive history of the Taft Police Department.
