Indians return from break with an eight run victory
One might assume that having a multi week break would hurt a team. The Maricopa baseball team showed no signs of rust Tuesday afternoon when they defeated Valley Christian 10-2 on the road.
“They were nice and relaxed yesterday,” Maricopa coach John Campos said of his team. ‘Every inning we scored runs because the guys played small ball.”
With the victory, the Indians improve to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the Coast Valley League.
It didn’t take long for the Maricopa offense to break through after they scored one run in each of the first three innings of the game before adding two in the top of the fourth inning. In that span of time, Valley Christian was held to a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Valley Christian would add one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning but Maricopa put up one run in the fifth inning and two in both the sixth and seventh innings to win.
Vladimir Martinez had a double in the game for Maricopa while Shane Knew had a double and single. Nathan Campos allowed one hit over six innings while striking out six batters. Jason Ogletree pitched the final inning while striking out two batters.
Maricopa returns to action Friday when they travel to Coastal Union.
