Police now have 7 arrests for trespassing
Taft Police arrested three more juveniles for climbing on buildings in the downtown this week, bringing to seven the number of people arrested for trespassing.
Two juveniles were arrested Wednesday night when they were spotted on top of a building in the 500 block of Center Street, and a 16-year-old boy faces trespassing and marijuana possession charges after being seen atop a building on the 400 block of Center Street Thursday afternoon.
Taft City Councilman Craig Noble, owner of the Fitness Connection, reported the two trespassers on a building across the street from him Wednesday night.
Noble has been victimized several times by vandals on his building.
Noble called police and officers took two youths into custody on trespassing charges.
The third arrest was more eventful.
Lt. Ed Whiting said an officer on patrol saw the head of a boy pop up over a building on the 400 block of Center St. and caught the youth climbing down from the building in the alley.
Whiting said the teen was asked why he climbed up on the building.
“To smoke some weed,” the youth replied, according to Whiting.
Officers found marijuana when they searched him, Whiting said.
While being questioned, Whiting said, the boy started to pass out.
He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Southwest Hospital to be examined, Whiting said, and will probably face trespassing and drug charges.
