Vonda Carroll  (Pete) Daily

Born: July 15, 1936
Died: March 31, 2009

V. Carroll “Pete” Daily passed away March 31 on Bainbridge Island, WA after a long illness.

Pete was born in Doniphan, MO in 1936 to Edna Jewell and James Odos Daily. He moved to Fellows, CA (near Bakersfield) when he was six years old, later attending Taft High School playing Football and Baseball, graduating in 1955.

Pete attended Taft College and Humbolt State University, majoring in forestry. At Humbolt, he met Shirley June Ross.  They married in 1963. In 1967, the family moved to the Porterville area, settling in Springville where they lived for over 20 years. Pete worked for the U.S. Forest Service in timber management, retiring in 1995 after more than 30 years of service. He worked for two local school districts driving a bus and enjoyed interacting with the children and youth. He moved to Bremerton, Washington in 2005.

Pete wore a happy smile, was ready to tell a story or joke and was always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone. He enjoyed many things in life: fishing, camping, bowling and crafting custom fishing poles and golf clubs.  He especially loved participating in and watching sports, particularly golf in his later years. He was a long-time member of the Porterville Association of Retarded Citizens and remained an advocate for persons with developmental disabilities.  He enjoyed the fellowship of his church and was always an active member, serving as a deacon, an AWANA teacher, member of the choir and driver for youth activities. His faith was strong and he lived a life dedicated to loving God and loving others. While living in Porterville, he was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

Pete is survived by his wife Shirley, his son Steve, daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Rob Wood, and grandsons Sean and Kelsey Wood of Bainbridge Island, WA.  He also leaves his sister-in-law Bonnie Daily, nephew Mark Daily, and niece Margie Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to your local ARC, Special Olympics, or Autism Speaks. Sympathy cards and letters can be sent to Carol Wood, 10187 NE Garibaldi Loop, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110. You may also sign the guest book at www.cookfamilyfuneralhome.com.
