Wildcats score seven points in victory

The Taft junior varsity boys tennis team continued its strong ride through the league season Tuesday afternoon by defeating the Bakersfield Christian Eagles 7-2 in Taft.

With the victory, Taft improves to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the South Sequoia League.

The Wildcats outlasted Shafter 4-2 in the singles competition thanks to Jose Barrera’s 6-2, 6-3 victory, Andrew Arellano’s 6-4, 6-2 win, Kyle Fleming’s 6-6, 5-7, 6-6, 7-3, 10-2 victory and Joel Qunitero’s 6-2, 6-0 win.

Shafter kept the match close after Taft’s Tony Ramirez fell 6-1, 4-6 and 6-10 while Taft’s Edgar Padilla lost 4-6, 4-6.

Taft took over from there by sweeping the doubles competition.

Ramirez and Barrera got the Wildcat run going by winning 6-1, 6-0 while Padilla and Arellano teamed up to win 6-4, 6-4. Ricardo Qunitero and Xavier Chavez joined forces to win the final doubles competition by winning 6-0, 6-0.
