One victim survives two-car collision just east of Blackwell's Corner


Four people have been killed in a two-car collision near Blackwell’s Corner.

The crash occurred just before noon on Highway 46 one mile east of Highway 33, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Kern County firefighters, CHP officers, ground ambulances and an air ambulance were sent to the scene.
Four people were pronounced dead at the scene.

A fifth person survived but had an arm severed in the crash, according to reports from the scene.
She was going to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Highway 46 has been closed between Highway 33 and Brown Material Road.

The CHP said the highway is expected to remain closed until about 3 p.m..
