Victims included man and one-year-old son, two from Los Osos

 The Kern County Coroner has released the identities of the four people killed in a head-on collision on Highway 46 near Blackwell’s Corner Friday.
The dead include an Avenal man and his one-year-old son and two people from Los Osos.

A fifth person in the crash suffered major injuries.

The California Highway Patrol said Jose Alberto Sanchez, 25 of Avenal was going eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 46 just east of Highway 33 and overtaking and passing a tractor-trailer combination when his car collided with a westbound car driven by Walter Earl Elliot, 84, of Los Osos.

The vehicles collided head-on.

Sanchez and his passenger, one-year-old Nathanial Sanchez, who was in a safety seat in the rear of the Sanchez car, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Elliot and his passenger, Shirlene Ann Soto, 62, of Los Osos, were also pronounced at the scene.
A 25-year-old female passenger in Sanchez car, whose identity was not available, was ejected and suffered major injuries.
Highway 46 was closed for nearly six hours by the crash.

It was reopened at 5:45 p.m. Friday evening.
