Lady Wildcats take off in third quarter to seal the victory

Playing on the road can be a tough experience. It was the opposite for the Taft freshmen girls basketball team Tuesday when they defeated the Tehachapi Warriors 33-21.

“The girls did great,” said Taft coach Taylor Miller.

With the victory, Taft improves to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the South Sequoia League.

Even though the scoring was low in the first half, both teams had momentum. Tehachapi struck in the first quarter by outscoring Taft 6-4 before the Lady Wildcats turned the tables in the second quarter to tie the game at 10.

Taft pulled away for good in the third quarter when the defense limited the Lady Warriors to two points while the offense erupted for 14. Both teams scored nine points in the final quarter with the Lady Wildcats winning by 12.

Meghan Clark had 12 points and 5 steals in the game while Tara Kelly had 7 rebounds. Chelsea Mc El Murry chipped in with 3 points and 6 rebounds.

Taft returns to action Friday when they host Bakersfield Christian. The game begins at 4 p.m.
