No information available about victim
Highway 119 was reopened to traffic just before noon Thursday after a fatal collision blocked the roadway at I-5 for nearly four hours.
California Highway Patrol officer Maria Pagano said a pickup truck traveling westbound on the highway slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer turning eastbound onto Highway 119 from the southbound I-5 offramp.
The driver of the pickup truck was killed instantly.
No information about the victim was immediately available.
The truck burst into flame and the fire spread into the trailer, which was carrying fresh carrots.
The driver of the produce truck was not injured.
CHP officers at the scene said the produce truck driver told them he stopped at the highway and the view was clear to the top of the bridge so he began his left turn.
The pickup came over the bridge at a high rate of speed and crashed into the rear tractor.
The crash occurred at 8:09 a.m. and the highway was finally opened at about 11:55 a.m.
