One man faces DUI charge. Woman undergoing tests after rollover

One man is at Kern Medical Center recovering from injuries in a suspected DUI crash and a young Taft woman is undergoing tests after she was injured in a rollover accident.

Both accidents occurred less than half an hour apart Thursday afternoon.

Few details are available about a crash on Highway 33 near Kerto Road about 2 p.m. but the California Highway Patrol said the driver, Robert Cummins, 54, of Taft, will be charged with drunk driving after his car went off the highway and down an embankment.

Cummins was flown to KMC by air ambulance after the 2 p.m. crash.

Witnesses said he was traveling at a high rate of speed when his car left the roadway.

At 2:20 p.m., a young Taft woman was driving eastbound on Midway Road between Henry Road and Lincoln when her pickup left the roadway and overturned.

Jessica Rogers, 19, is undergoing tests to determine the extent of her injuries.
