Council will consider resolution on Tuesday
Taft City Councilman Randy Miller has requested that the Taft City Council consider a censure of fellow city councilman Cliff Thompson.
Miller has had a resolution to censure Thompson placed on the agenda for next Tuesday’s council meeting.
It was placed there with the support of Councilman Paul Linder.
(Any item from a councilman must receive a second from another councilman before it is placed on the agenda.)
Miller said through a written statement read by Linder at a Feb. 16 council meeting that he was going to seek a censure of Thompson, primarily for a business deal between Thompson and City Manager Bob Gorson that has been criticized by the Kern County Grand Jury and in two investigations by attorneys.
Miller’s resolution cites many more reasons and says Thompson’s “various personal and unprofessional actions have brought shame and controversy to the City of Taft in the manner of a Grand Jury investigation.”
The resolution also says that Taft City Council “has lost all confidence in Councilman Cliff Thompson.”
A censure is a form of discipline, according to a staff report accompanying the censure resolution .
Here’s is the complete text of the resolution as emailed to the Midway Driller by Miller:
