Five other people injured in crash in western Kern County Saturday night
One man was fatally injured and five other people hospitalized after a head-on collision on Highway 46 in western Kern County Saturday night.
The dead man was identified by the Kern County Sheriff-Coroner as Sandy Blake Roberts, 21 of Hollywood, Fla.
He was the front seat passenger in a car driven by Nicole, C. Deane, 20, who has addresses in both Los Angeles and Nashville, Tenn., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said Deane was eastbound on Highway 46 at a high rate of speed passing pickup but lost control when she came back into the eastbound lanes.
Her vehicle veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Luis Carlos Mosqueda, 28, of King City.
Deane and Roberts suffered major injuries and were airlifted to Kern Medical Center after the 7:35 p.m. accident.
Roberts died at 9:46 p.m. in the KMC emergency room.
Luis Mosqueda suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP, and three passengers, Karla Reyes, 30, of King City, Manuel Mosqueda, 55, and Maria Mosqueda, 54, both of San Miguel, suffered moderate injuries.
Two air ambulances were used to transport the injured as well as two ground ambulances.
Two of the victims were pinned in the wreckage and were extricated by Kern County and San Luis Obispo County firefighters.
All of the victims were wearing their seatbelts, according to the CHP
