Nicholas Hagstrom, Jennifer Chamale represent TUHS

The 23rd annual Kern County Regional Science Fair was  held March 23 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Rabobank Convention Center, 1001 Truxtun Ave., in Bakersfield.

Two students from Taft High School, Nicholas Hagstrom and Jennifer Chamale, joined approximately 600 students in grades 4-12 from 114 schools and  their projects displayed and judged, knowing that a category finish of first or second place can make them eligible for the 59th annual California Science Fair to be held May 17-18 at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. An awards ceremony follows from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Discovery Channel’s Deanne Bell, host of “Smash Lab,” will address students from 9-10 a.m.
Judging will concentrate on scientific thought/engineering goals, creativity, organization, completeness, clarity, effort and motivation. Students have to explain their displays, log books and hypothesis to a panel of judges.
The science fair is administered by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Founding sponsor Aera Energy LLC, as well as Chevron North America Exploration and Production, Occidental of Elk Hills and the Kern County Science Foundation make the event possible.
