Lady Indians erupt for 19 runs in game

One could say it was a banner day for the Maricopa softball team Tuesday afternoon as Cortney Downey tossed a no hitter in the Lady Indians 19-1 victory over the Cuyama Bears at home.

The Maricopa softball team completed their home stand in a big way Tuesday afternoon as they defeated the Cuyama Bears 19-1.

With the victory, Maricopa improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Coast Valley League.

Along with the no hitter and the nine strikeouts, Downey also was 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple. 

Toni Geer was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in and three stolen bases. Jessica Hampton was 3-for-3 with eight stolen bases and two runs batted in. Shania Caples was 4-for-4 with a  home run and four stolen bases.

Maricopa baseball loses

The Maricopa baseball team didn’t have the same luck at home Tuesday afternoon when the Cuyama Bears edged out the Indians 15-14 at home.

“The kids mounted a really good comeback after having a really bad second inning,” said Taft coach John Campos.

With the loss Maricopa falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Coast Valley League.
