Robert "Bob" Dale Stanley
October 11, 1934 - March 26, 2010

Bob Stanley was born in Fellows, California and attended school in Fellows and Taft.  His family raised chickens, which Bob would deliver to the feed store on his way to Taft Union High School.  After attending Taft College, Bob joined the National Guard and was stationed at Camp Pendleton for 6 months.  At Camp Pendleton, he was awarded a Marksmanship Badge.  After his time in the National Guard, Bob worked for his brother-in-law, Bill Gill until he went to work as a welder for Belridge Oil in 1958.  Belridge Oil eventually became Shell Oil, and Bob worked there until his retirement as a Drilling Foreman in 1991.

In 1962, Bob married Betty Collins Nabors, and 10 years later, they had a daughter named Robyn.  With Shell Oil, the Stanley family was transferred to Midland, Texas for 5 years, and then eventually back to Bakersfield.   After retirement, Bob and Betty traveled to Washington, Laughlin, the Central Coast of California, and to visit their daughter in San Francisco on numerous occasions.  Bob was not a big gambler in Laughlin, and could really stretch his dollar in the casinos.  He mainly loved going to Laughlin to see shows, eat good dinners, and people watch.   Bob really enjoyed relaxing, reading the newspaper and magazines, watching the news and old Western films, going out to restaurants and clipping coupons.  He also had a great fondness for motorcycles and old cars.  Bob loved animals and took care of many dogs and cats throughout his life.  His tortoiseshell cat, Sabrina, will miss him very much.

Bob leaves behind Betty, his wife of 48 years;  his daughter Robyn Stanley and her husband Doug Downen and new granddaughter Astrid Downen, all of San Francisco; a sister, Lucille Haney of Taft; his very special niece, Deborah Strosnider of Taft, and numerous other nieces and nephews.  Bob was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Bob passed away from complications related to Alzheimer's Disease, so the family asks that in lieu of flowers to please send donations to the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County or to Hoffman Hospice.
