Score was three strokes shy of qualifying for next round
It is not the way someone wants to end their season. Yet that is what Taft High golfer Blake McPherson experienced Tuesday afternoon when he fell three strokes shy of advancing in the individual section championship at Dinuba.
“It was a pretty tough course,” said McPherson. “I played really good. I putted really, really bad.”
“He had some trouble with his putting,” said Taft coach Mike Goodwin. “He had a string of four holes where he missed four to five putts to save par.”
Overall, McPherson shot a 77 in the 48-player field. In order to advance to the Southern Calif-ornia Regionals McPher-son had to finish in the top 12 with a cut off line of 74.
“I felt I had a really good chance at advancing,” said McPherson.
While he did not get to the Southern California Regionals this year, Goodwin has high hopes for McPherson next year.
“It was a great year for him, and with one year left he will qualify and move one to the state,” said Goodwin.
