Basketball and tennis camps along with Women's Fast Pitch League will be starting over the next couple of months

Summer is supposed to be a time of relaxation. The West Side Recreation and Park District on the other hand is offering several sports activities over the next couple of months.

The first opportunity will take place next month with the start of the Women’s Fast Pitch League.

Double header games will begin on June 22 at Franklin Field with B League games being played on Mondays and A League games being played on Thursdays.

The B League is for beginners 13 years and other while the A League is open to players 14 years and up.  The B League will sign up and be entered into a draft. The cost is $250 per team and $10 per game for umpire or $25 per player.
Registration runs until Thursday, June 17.

Tennis lessons will be the next activity to start up on Tuesday, July 6. The lessons will take place Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. until Wednesday, July 21. Players will get the chance to work with Taft High coaches and players. The cost is $35 per player.

Registration runs until Thursday, July 1.

The final chance will take place late in July when the WSRPD holds a boys basketball camp from July 26 to July 30.
It is open to boys between the ages of 8-15.

The cost is $40 per participant with the camp taking place at Mullen Gym. Players will also get to work with Taft High coach Jeff Hughes and his players.

There will also be two guest speakers--current Bakersfield College men’s basketball coach Rich Hughes and former head, assistant coach, NCAA head/assistant coach, California Community College Men’s Head coach and High School head basketball coach Rex Hughes.

Registration will run until Tuesday, July 22.
