It looks like Taft will have a Fourth of July fireworks show after all, but the format is in for a major change.
First, the display will take place in town rather than at Franklin Field.
Second, there are small fees attached for an up-close-and-personal look.
The site of the display sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Westside Waste Management will be the Taft High baseball/soccer facility on West San Emidio Street.
The fireworks will be launched from the junior varsity baseball.
Public seating areas – bring your lawn chairs and blankets – will be on the soccer fields at the corner of Tenth and San Emidio, the Buena Vista High School field on Tenth and the Taft High softball fields on San Emidio.
There is an admission charge for those prime viewing areas.
The soccer field area will cost $3 per person, the Buena Vista High play field $2 per person and the high school softball fields $1 per person.
Kids under age five are free with a paying adult.
There are pre-sale values – five for $10 on the soccer fields, five for $5 on the BVHS field and 10 for $5 on the softball fields.
Tickets are available at the Chamber office located at 400 Kern St.
West San Emidio Street premium parking can be reserved for $20.
There’s more.
You can sponsor one or more of the shells that will be exploding in the air.
The shells range from two to 10 inches in diameter with prices running $10, $25, $50, $75, $100, $250 and $500.
The fee structure was initiated to help defray the cost of putting on the show, which was in danger of being cancelled.
Gates to all three prime viewing areas will open at 6 p.m.
Bring your portable radio and you can get patriotic music to go along with the fireworks.  Tune in tdo the new Taft information/emergency AM station 1610 on the dial.
Vendors and restrooms will be set up in the parking lot on the northeast corner of Tenth and San Emidio.
