Pilot, passenger hoisted to safety by helicopter
No one was injured Sunday evening when a light plane crash-landed on muddy Soda Lake about 25 miles southwest of Taft.
The plane -- carrying a pilot and a passenger -- was forced to attempt an emergency landing on the usually dry lake in the Carrizo Plain National Monument.
The pilot of another plane flying in the area saw the craft go down and reported it to authorities.
The incident occurred just over the Kern County line in San Luis Obispo County.
The passenger and pilot were hoisted from the muddy crash site by a Kern County Sheriff's search and rescue helicopter and taken to a dry area where they were set down.
