Lady Wildcats win in two sets

The Taft junior varsity volleyball team returned to single match play with an element of success Tuesday afternoon when they outlasted the Highland Scots 25-13 and 25-19 at home.

“The girls played excellent,” said Taft coach Taylor Miller. “The skill they need to work on the most is communicating on the court.”

With the victory, Taft improves to 6-6 on the young season.

Taft and Highland were involved in a battle early in the match with the teams tying each other three times. The Lady Wildcats finally broke the string of ties with a 7-0 run thanks in part to a pair of aces.

Highland ended the run with back-to-back points but Taft outscored the Lady Scots 6-2 to up their lead to 18-10. After Highland cut the lead to seven, Taft scored seven out of the next nine points to win the first set by 12.

Following a rally to get the go ahead point, Taft took off with an 8-0 run to lead 17-9.

Highland bounced back as they chipped away at the Lady Wildcat lead over the next several moments to cut the Taft lead to three at 18-15. The set remained close the rest of the way but the Lady Wildcats outlasted the Lady Scots 7-4
