Probation search leads to discovery of 8 grams of methamphetamine

A probation search by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on Monday led to the seizure of eight grams of methamphetamine and the arrest of a South Taft man.
James Ray Scott, 40, was arrested after the search of his home in the 100 block of Pico.
Deputies conducted the search under the terms of his probation. They found  the methamphetamine as well as scales, plastic sandwich bags and an unknown type of prescription medicine, Sgt. Martin Downs said.
Scott was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of paraphernalia.
He is being held at the Sheriff's central receiving facility in Bakersfield on total bail of $50,000.
Kern County Superior Court records show Scott was convicted of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance on July 7, 2009 and sentenced to nine months in jail and three years probation.
