Sixth and eighth grade girls win while seventh graders lose
The Lincoln eighth grade girls basketball team continued their successful run through the season early Wednesday evening in Taft when they defeated Fairfax 37-16.
With the victory, Taft improves to 6-2 with both of their losses coming in championship games.
Lincoln got off to a lightning fast start when they jumped out to an 8-2 advantage thanks to three free throws from Arizona Pilgrim. Fairfax cut the lead to five, but the Lady Lions countered with a 12-0 run including four points from Gloria Okafor and Caitlyn Emberson.
Fairfax attempted to get back into the game by scoring the final four points of the half. However, the Lady Lions caught fire at the beginning of the second half with 10 unanswered points. Fairfax finally ended their scoring drought with a free throw and layup at about the 10:23.
Instead of closing the gap, Fairfax was only able to score five points the rest of the half. Meanwhile, Lincoln scored eight additional points to seal the victory.
Seventh graders fall
Lincoln’s seventh grade girls team had a tougher challenge when they fell to Fairfax 14-13.
Fairfax made the first move by scoring four unanswered points. Lincoln bounced back with back-to-back baskets to even the score at four.
After Fairfax hit a three-pointer, Lincoln scored four out of the final six points but Fairfax held a 9-8 lead at the half.
Lincoln evened the score with a free throw early in the second half. Fairfax countered by building a 14-9 lead before the Lady Lions scored on a pair of layups. However, it was not enough.

The Lady Lions sixth grade basketball won their game by a score of 14-8.
