SARA “SALLY” EVA POE-WALTON
1933 – 2011

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Church of Christ, 3545 Spring Street, Paso Robles, for Sara “Sally” Eva Poe-Walton, who passed away January 24 in Templeton, California at the age of 78.

Sally was the sparkplug of our family. She made every gathering fun and memorable and was also affectionately known as Grandma Sally, Aunt Silly Sally and Mamaw because of the wit and wisdom she gave us.  Always the life of the party, Sally could be counted on to arrive at themed gatherings in her wild and wacky outfits.

Sally was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Ruth and Clarence Poe.  She moved to California and grew up in Derby Acres before returning to Tennessee to attend East Tennessee State.  She moved back to Kern County and married Jerry Walton. They had two children, Lisa “Leeza” and Michael.

Over the years her beautiful voice entertained many, not only in church but also  as part of the Sweet Adelines and the Camaradas.  Sally’s zest for living was boundless.  She enjoyed every holiday, developed great faith as a longtime member of the Church of Christ, and loved each and every opportunity to be with friends and family.  We will miss her lively conversations and funny Sally-isms like “I’ll ‘Swanee’ Johnny”, “Forevermore” and “Good Night Nurse”.  She believed the sun rose and set on her family of ‘favorites’, and she adored each and every one of us.  Her extended family at California Manor had a trusted, caring friend in her.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Maurice.  In addition to her children, she is survived by their spouses Norman White of Houston, Texas, and Gina Iannelli Walton of Boulder, Colorado.  Also left to treasure Sally’s memory are her grandchildren Alex Walton and his wife Leila Walton, Gavin Walton, her brother Andy “Mack” Poe and his wife Jeanne, many nieces and nephews (all “favorites”), many special friends and her special caregiver Susie Johansen.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Maurice Poe Memorial with the University Foundation at Sacramento State University, Sacramento Hall 118, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, CA, 95819-6030
