Men were arrested near Mckittrick. Deputies say they had oilfield pipes, gauges and other stolen items
Two Derby Acres men were arrested near McKittrick on theft charges by Kern County Sheriff's Patrol Deputies last week.
A press release from the Sheriff's Rural Crimes Investigation Unit gave the following account:
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation.
The driver, 51 year old Douglas Arthur Johansen, from Derby Acres, was driving on a suspended driver's license.
After further investigation, several hundred pounds of scrap steel, oilfield pipes and gauges were located in the truck.
The items were stolen from Chevron property. Johansen and his passenger, Michael Leon Barham, also from Derby Acres, were both arrested for grand theft. Johansen also had a small baggy of methamphetamine on his possession, the press release said.
Kern County Superior Court records show both men were charged with grand theft, trespass and possession of stolen property.
Johansen is also charged with possession of a controlled substance of driving on a suspended license.
Barham is also facing a count of possession of controlled substance paraphernalia.
