Suspect Dustin Wedel was boyfriend of woman caring for boy

Kern County Sheriff's detectives have made an arrest in connection with the death of three-year-old James Fanshier in Ford City on Jan. 23.?The boyfriend of the woman who was caring for him, Dustin Wedel, 25,  was arrested on one count of murder, one count of torture, and one count of abuse of a minor resulting in death. He was ooked into the Central Receiving Facility.
Wedel is being held without bail and is scueduled to make his first court appearance on Monday in Bakersfield
Deputies located Wedel at his mother’s home in the 5800 block of Summer Cypress in Bakersfield on Thursday.
Wedel was living with Stormy Roberts, 20, who is the ex-girlfriend of the boy;s biological father in a small home at 200 ½ Van Buren.
Roberts ran into the street carrying the boys lifeless body and flagged down a passing Sheriff's deputy.
Medical aid was called to the scene and the boys was pronounced dead.
Both Roberts and Wedel were questioned that night in connection with the death but neither was charged.?Wedel was arrested and held briefly on an unrelated warrant.
Wedel was arrested just a few hours after the coroner concluded that the boy was killed by “multiple blunt force trauma.”
