Open house set for September 10
In two weeks the residents of Taft will have a new place to play in when the West Side Recreation and Park District opens their new community recreation center the week of Sept. 5.
The WSRPD will hold a series of soft openings according to Les Clark. On Tuesday, Sept. 6 there will be a tour for the staff and board of the Rec.
The following day employees of Aera will be invited for a tour in appreciation of the $100,000 donation that Aera made to help build the new building.
On Sept.8 it will be Chevron’s turn along with several Taft groups.
Two days later, on Saturday, Sept. 10, the WSRPD will hold an open house and preview of the new facility. Times are still being worked out. September 12 will be the first actual day.
When the new building opens up, the hours for the gym will run from 5 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday through Thursdays and 5 a.m.-midnight Fridays and Saturdays. The gym will be open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., on Sundays.
The cost for both the weight room and gym is $5 for a daily pass, $30 for a monthly membership, $150 for a six month membership (paid up front) and $240 for a yearly membership (paid up front).
There is also a family plan. The monthly membership is $30 per person and $15 per additional person on the plan. A yearly membership is $20 per person and $10 per additional person on the plan.
Meanwhile, the weight room will be open from 5 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday through Saturdays and 10 a.m.-10 p.m., on Sundays.
Anyone who wants to use the bowling alley, it is $10 per person, $3 for each additional child and $5 for each additional person. The cost includes shoe and ball for one hour. The hours of operation are 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday.
Come October different events will be held from ping pong to indoor hockey to indoor football to a batting cage.
The programs that are being offered are free to members at no additional price. The cost for non members is $2 for children and those with student I.D.’s and $3 for those without.
