Wildcats losses were part of the Wasco Tournament

 Taft’s junior varsity girls’ tennis team fell from the undefeated ranks when it went 3-2 in the Wasco Tournament Friday and Saturday. In the pro-set doubles tournament, Taft, 10-0 entering the tournament, lost to Garces, the top team in the county, and to Liberty, one of the top three teams in the county.


Taft beat Frontier, Wasco and Arvin.


In a razor-thin loss in the first match, Taft tied Division I powerhouse Liberty, 2-2 in matches and 25-25 in games, but lost because Liberty won the No. 1 doubles match, 8-3. Haven Cook and Maria Solis won, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles and Daisy Guitron and Hailey Cook won, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.


Later Friday, Taft swept Arvin, 4-0.


On Saturday, Taft was overpowered by Division I powerhouse Garces, 4-0. Taft swept Wasco, 4-0. Taft beat Frontier, 3-1, losing only the No. 1 doubles match, 8-2.


Haven Cook went 4-1 to lead Taft.


Taft’s JV team finished third in its five-team division and fifth overall in the 10-team tournament. Taft JV improved to 13-2.
