Junior varsity and varsity defeat Lady Bears 9-0
The Taft High girls’ tennis teams shut out the Arvin Bears by identical 9-0 scores Tuesday.
Varsity No 1 Trisha Adams beat Brianna Williams, 6-3, 6-2. That was the closest match of the day. Kristen Coke was sick so the rest of the Taft team had to play up a spot but it didn’t matter.
At No. 2 singles, junior Ana Estrada beat senior Monica Aguilar, 6-1, 6-3. Junior Yeraldin Barrara beat senior Miriam Toro, 6-2, 6-0.
Mariah Melton beat Brittany Williams, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Taylan Erro blanked senior Adelaida Hernandez, 6-0, 6-0. Gloria Hartley beat Yesenia Santoyo, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Estrada and Barrera beat Aguilar and Hernandez, 6-3, 6-0. Hartley and Haley Houghton beat Brittany Williams and Magie Monsivais, 6-1, 6-1.
With the wins, Hartley improved to a team-leading 20-0. Jessa Dahlgren and JC Yarbrough beat Sarah Smith and Esmeralda Ponce, 6-2, 6-1.
The varsity team improved to 12-2; 3-1 in the South Sequoia League.
The story was much the same with the JV team. Diana Medina beat Jazmin Zuniga, 6-0, 6-1. Wendy Herrera beat Karen Clemente, 6-2, 6-3. Lupita Lozano beat Jennifer Hernandez, 6-0, 6-2. Haven Cook beat Gracie Falomir, 6-1, 6-3. Daisy Guitron beat Lupe Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-0. Roxanna Barboza beat Alondra Lule, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Medina and Herrera beat Zuniga and Falomir, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3. Lozano and Haven Cook beat Clemente and Hernandez, 6-2, 6-2. Hailey Cook and Angelica McCrossen beat Isabel Perez Meza and Barbara Cervantes, 6-1, 6-1.
The JV team improved to 16-2; 4-0 in the SSL.
