Lady Wildcats fall in two games

All teams would like to go into league play with a winning streak. That was not the case for the Taft junior varsity volleyball team late Tuesday afternoon following a 25-16, 25-21 loss to the Mira Monte Lions at home.

After the Lady Lions lept out to a 3-1 lead to begin the first game, Taft answered with a 4-2 run thanks in part to a pair of aces from Chanel Tremain to take a 5-3 advantage. Mira Monte stormed back with a 6-1 run to grab the lead back at 9-6.

Mira Monte maintained a short lead until the Lady Lions went on a 9-2 run to take a 19-10 advantage. Taft threatened to get back into the set by cutting the advantage to six at two different times. The Lady Lions followed with three unanswered points to take the game.

The Lady Lions threatened to put the second game away early with a 6-2 run. Taft battled back to tie the score at six thanks to Haylee Tracy’s ace. After the teams tied one more time, Mira Monte threatened to pull away again with a 7-2 run to lead 14-9.

Taft whittled the lead to three before the Lady Lions went on a 9-3 run to lead 23-14. Starting with a tip, Taft made one last run by cutting the Mira Monte lead to 25-21. However, the Lady Lions got the final point to win the match.
