Repairs expected to take up to 8 hours
The Kern County Fire Department is reporting 481 Verizon customers in the Lost Hills area have lost phone service to their homes.
Customers will be unable to make any calls, including 911, KCFD spokesman Derek Tisinger said.
Tisinger said the outage was caused by a Verizon line being unintentionally cut.
At 4 p.m., Tisinger said, Verizon expects to have repair crews on scene in approximately three hours. The repair is estimated to take between six and eight hours.
If local residents have an emergency they can call 911 via cell phone (AT&T cell phones have been confirmed to still connect to 911 in the Lost Hills area) or go directly to Kern County Fire Station #26 in Lost Hills, which is located just north of Highway 46, at 14670 Lost Hills Road.
The station number is 661-797-2308.
The California Highway Patrol and the Kern County Sheriff are also aware of the problem. An alternative number for the Sheriff’s department in the event of an emergency is 661-861-3110 which will connect directly to the Sheriff’s Office
