Defendant was already in custody on unrelated charge when he was cught with meth in his cell, officers say.
The man police say was caught trying to hide drugs in his jail cell pleaded no contest to that charge.
Brandon William Ford, 21, entered the plea in Kern County Superior Court Monday.
Ford will be sentenced on March 26.
Ford had been arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on petty theft and obstructing officers charges on Feb. 10.
While he was being held in the Taft jail, officers saw him trying to hide a substance they believe was methamphetamine.
The other charges filed against Ford were dropped in exchange for the no contest plea to the felony drug plea.
