  • Judith Ann (Ridley) Ziegler, retired Finance Supervisor at Taft College and 20-year resident of Taft, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Rosewood Health Center in Bakersfield, California. She was surrounded by her family.
She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December, 2005 and underwent intensive in-patient chemotherapy at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California. After her leukemia went into remission, she received a bone marrow stem cell transplant from her sister Susan Casanova. She enjoyed 18 months of relatively good health before graft versus host disease and anti-rejection medication from her bone marrow transplant caused progressive deterioration ending in massive and ongoing bone and lung damage. She spent the final two years of her life at Rosewood Health Center in Bakersfield, mostly in the company of her husband Eric.
Judy was born in Monroe, Michigan on January 25, 1944 to Dr. Roger W Ridley and Bessie Jane (Root) Ridley. After World War II her family moved to Rochester, Minnesota and later to Riverside, California. She graduated from Riverside Poly High School in 1962 and in 1967 was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing from Michigan State University where she met her husband of 45 years Eric Ziegler. They were married at the Alumni Memorial Chapel on the Michigan State University campus on September 3, 1966.
After graduation, she and her husband Erick remained in East Lansing, Michigan where she was the accountant for the Science and Math Teaching Center at Michigan State University. After moving to Delaware in 1968, she worked in the accounting department of paper manufacturer Crown Zellerbach and later as Controller of the DeSabatino Companies of Wilmington, Delaware. After moving to California in 1974, she worked as an accountant for Karl Brown Bookkeeping in Barstow and ultimately as Finance Supervisor at Taft College retiring in January, 2006.
Judy is survived by her husband Eric; sons David of Bakersfield and Brian of Rota, Spain; daughters Karen Ziegler of Bakersfield, Sheryl Horn and husband Steve of Riverside, Janet Pinkley and husband Patrick of Oxnard; by Kristen Ziegler and Patty Lopez, both of Bakersfield; and by four grandchildren Spenser, Morgan and Nathan Ziegler of Bakersfield and Ryan Horn of Riverside.
She is also survived by her mother Bessie Jane Ridley of Riverside; brothers Roger and wife Christine of Nipomo, Alan and wife Yumiko of Chula Vista, Robert and wife Tessie of San Gabriel; and by sister Susan Casanova and husband Bill of Bradenton, Florida as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Judy treated everyone she met with love, kindness, generosity and respect; she was well like by almost everyone who knew her. Her family and friends loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. May she rest in peace of God’s loving arms.
Funeral services will be at the Greenwood Mortuary Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012; a short graveside service will follow. Rev.
