Cause still under investigation
The fire that destroyed a Dustin Acres home caused $100,000 damage, Kern County Fire Department spokesman George Baker said.
The fire was reported at 10:23 a.m.
Arriving firefighters found the 2,000 square foot structure at 27961 ½ Highway 119 75 percent engulfed in flames with fire.
Downed power lines near the house, which was several hundred feet east of Highway 119 , hampered firefighting efforts.
Firefighters stayed out of the home because of the danger of a roof collapse.
The fire was finally knocked down about an hour after it broke out
There was also a lack of a nearby water supply.
Five engines, a ladder truck and a water tender were sent to the scene of the fire.
Firefighters were able to save a nearby boat and farm equipment.
There were no injuries.?The cause is under investigation.
