1950 – 2012
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Westside Believers Fellowship, 101 Highway 33, Taft, for Janette Melba Rice, 61. Janette was born to Roy and Mildred Smith on October 9, 1950 in Lepanto, Arkansas, being cared for by her father and step-mother, Ida Smith, after her mother's passing. Janette went to join them in the house of the Lord on April 12, 2012 with her family by her side. Janette came to Kern County as a young child and made it her life home. She met and married Wilburn Rice (Wayne) and together had one child. After divorcing, Janette went on to graduate from Taft College. She went to work for the City of Taft CCF, leaving there in 1992 to go to work for Kern County Aging and Adult Services becoming a Program Coordinator before retiring in 2007. Janette had many hobbies including softball and cooking but the loves of her life were two grand babies, Gage and Gavin. Family was her world but these two are what made her world spin. Some of her favorite times were going out to breakfast on Saturday mornings with her “Boba.” Janette is survived by her son and his wife, Michael and Jennifer; her grand babies, Gage and Gavin; siblings, Robert (Wendi), Linda (Tommy), Brenda, Cathleen and James; nieces and nephew, Sherry (Stacey), Tammy (Todd), Robyn (Terry), Tracy (Wayne) and Ryan (Cindi); great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Rileigh, Gunner, Sean and Heath; good friends, Carol (Dennis), Cathy (Wayne), Linda S. (Tommy), Tammy (Dave); and many more family and friends. There are no visitation hours scheduled and the arrangements are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home. JOHN 14: 1-3 NKJ
1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
2 “In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were no so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
