Pilgrim tosses no-hitter in Taft victory
The Taft varsity softball team cleared their first hurdle Friday afternoon when they shut down the Fresno Warriors 10-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Division IV playoffs.
With the victory, Taft advances to the semi final round Wednesday afternoon. If they win that game, the Lady Wildcats will play in the championship game a week from today.
Taft threatened to get on the board in the botttom of the first inning thanks to Haylee Tracy's double and a hit by pitch to Mikaela Davis. However, the next two batters were retired to end the threat.
After a quiet second inning, the Lady Wildcats did most of their damage in the third inning by scoring nine runs while sending 13 batters to the plate. Out of all of the battes that came to the plate that inning only five got hits.
Tracy closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run scoring triple. The game was called due to the 10 run rule.
Tracy led the charge on the hitting side by going 4-for-4 with a triple, double and two singles. She also scored once and had two runs batted in. Kelsey Wilmer was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double.
Meanwhile, Pilgrim pitched five innings while striking out 10 batters.
