Fire destroyed home on same block where several other fires have been reported
The cause of the fire that destroyed a home on the 600 block of South Street on June 7 has not been determined and is still under investigation, Kern County Fire Department Spokesman Derek Tisinger said.
That fire was the third fire that night in the immediate area and the latest in a series of fires in that neighborhood. An arson investigator was called to the scene.
The fire broke out just before 9:30 p.m. and the home was well involved when the first firefighters arrived,
Firefighting efforts were hampered by downed power lines to the front of the building.
They concentrated their efforts on saving the adjacent structures. Some fire crews were delayed getting to that fire because they were some distance away on the scene of a grass fire.
About four hours before the larger fire broke out, a fire burned through several back yards on the same block.
