Evelyn Uhles of Maricopa, CA passed away on June 29, 2012 in Bakersfield, CA at the age of 80 after a six year battle with leukemia. Evelyn was born one of fourteen children on September 21, 1931 to Ernest and Elsie Dean in Coldwater, AR. She worked in her early adult years picking cotton. Evelyn loved to be at home with family. She enjoyed collecting coins as a hobby and was a great cook of down-home southern food and a wonderful homemaker. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Elsie Dean; siblings, Lorene, Margaret, Ruby, James, Elmer and Elfert; and grandson, Tommy Lynn. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Gene Uhles; daughter, Linda Spangler; sons, Tommy Walls and John Walls; sisters, Clara Garlock, Joyce Queen, Loretta Free and Verna Griffin; brothers, Joe Dean, Ellis Dean and Harold Dean. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as her step-children, Garry Uhles, Phil Uhles, Sharon Crenshaw, David Uhles, Deann Scott and Kelly Schofield and their families. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home in Taft, CA A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in the West Side District Cemetery in Taft with Pastor Rick Prevost officiating.
