  • Taft, Calif. —
The community of Taft continues to rally to support a teenager recovering from the effects of a stroke.

Saturday night the Taft Petroleum Club hosted a fundraising spaghetti dinner for Erica Pommerville and her family.
Pommerville suffered a stroke on June 28 and is now at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center undergoing treatment.

She has had two procedures so far, but over the weekend was taken out of a drug-induced coma and was alert.
"She's doing a little better," said Pommerville's aunt, Sunshine Snyder. "She's not talking, but she's doing a lot better."

Later in the weekend, her condition showed even more improvement.
Pommerville's mother posted on her Facebook page that Erica was even able to speak a little bit on Sunday.

Saturday's spaghetti dinner was the latest in a series of fundraisers, and the show of support has really touched the family, Snyder said.
"Her parents are just overwhelmed," she said. The fundraisers are helping the family with living expenses while they stay in San Francisco to be near Erica.
"It's incredible.
I love it," Snyder said Saturday at the Petroleum Club. "Taft always comes through."
