Edward J. Vohnout, 83, passed away peacefully Friday, July 20, 2012 in San Luis Obispo, with his loving family by his side. Edward was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 24, 1928.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, receiving 2 purple hearts while serving in the Korean War. He then served 28 more years in the Army Reserves. Edward was married to his loving wife Rita in 1950 and celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Edward and Rita moved to Taft, CA in 1962 with their children where Ed worked for Chevron USA for 25 years and was active in their church and community and enjoyed square dancing, golf and playing cards. He also loved being involved with his six children and their activities. After their kids were grown, Ed and Rita retired in Pismo Beach where Ed continued to enjoy playing golf, cards and spending time with his six children, their spouses, and grandchildren who visited often.
He will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him. Edward is survived by his wife Rita, son Edward A. Vohnout, Bakersfield; Daughters April Smith, Coronado; Theresa (Terry) McDonald, Taft; Kim Steele, Chico; Laura Wooldridge, Woodland Hills; son Chris Vohnout, San Marcos; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 28th at 1:00pm, St. Paul's Catholic Church in Pismo Beach. Arrangements are being made through Marshall-Spoo (805) 489-5552.
