Several swimmers capture first place in the meet
It was the final meet of the season and naturally the competition was going to be tough.
Despite those challenges, several Taft Tigersharks swimmers went out with a bang Saturday in the Kern County Swim Championships at the Salvucci Aquatic Center at Garces High School in Bakersfield.
Cooper Golling highlighted the day for Taft by two races. Cooper set a personal record in his first victory by finishing the boys five and under backstroke finals in a time of 33.57. In the preliminaries, Cooper finished second with a time of 34.75.
Like his first victory, Cooper set a personal best in the 25-yard breaststroke to win with a time of 40.68. He got to the finals by winning the preliminary raced with a time of 48.88.
Joining the winners circle for Taft were Presley Golling and Antonia Perier. Presley won the nine-year old boys 50-yard backstroke finals with a personal record time of 44.80. He also won the preliminary race with a time of 47.56.
Golling also finished third in the 100-yard IM finals with a time of 1:42.88.
Meanwhile, Perier won the eight year old girls 25-yard freestyle finals with a time of 18.65. Perier also was victorious in the preliminaries with a time of 18.70. Perier was also third in the 25-yard breaststroke with a personal time of 25.88 and second in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:48.63.
Even though he had to compete in a new age bracket, Samuel Barnes was still successful with a pair of second place finishes. His first second place result came in the 13-year old boys 50-yard breaststroke finals with a personal time of 35.34.
In his next second place finish, Barnes had a time of 29.28 in the 50-yard freestyle finals.
Robert Heimiller was third in the nine year old boys 50-yard backstroke finals with a time of 48.54.
Brooke Ashmore had a string of fourth place finishes. The first was in the eight year old girls 25-yard backstroke finals with a time of 24.33. Before getting that result, Ashmore won the preliminaries with a time of 23.18.
Her next fourth place finish came in the 25-yard freestyle with a personal time of 19.94. Ashmore’s final fourth place finish took place in the 25-yard breaststroke where she had a personal time of 26.26.
Carson Rodart joined the fourth place list by finishing with a personal best time of 28.46 in the six year old boys 25-yard freestyle finals.
Ruby Stith was fourth in the 14-year old girls 50-yard breaststroke with a personal best time of 40.38. James Stith finished fourth in the 12-year old boys 100-yard IM finals with a time of 1:29.83.
Cherise Strong was fourth in the 10-year old girls 50-yard backstroke with a time of 43.62.
Breann Bracken had a air of second place finishes in the preliminaries of the eight year old girls 25-yard butterfly and the 25-yard freestyle with times of 18.73 and 18.82. However, she went on to finish 10th in one of the races.
