  • Marye Alice Helms, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, in Albany, OR, following a short battle with leukemia with her daughter Wendy by her side.
    Marye Alice was born in Taft, CA the daughter of Martin and Edna Montgomery.
    Marye Alice married to Vernon S. Helms in 1941 and enjoyed an exceptional marriage for 63 years.
    To the union of Vern and Marye Alice, three children were born, Janet, Wendy and Monty.
    She also helped raise a nephew, Robert Sykes, and considered him one of her own.
    A great love of Marye Alice was teaching grades two and five within the Taft City Schools for over 20 years that engulfed her during her younger years.
    She was a former PTA President, Girl Scout and Brownie Leader and active in the Christian Science
    Church of Taft and the Fusion Faith Center of Albany, OR.
    She was very active in committees at Lake Pend Oreille, ID every summer where she traveled with Vern and enjoyed fishing every morning before the dew was off the shimmering waters of Lake Pend Oreille.
    She also enjoyed camping at Huntington Lake every summer with her family and other families such as The Curtis', The Stouts, Heseltine's, Mitchell's, and Hooks.
    Many a great adventure happened every summer with her family and shared friends at
    Huntington Lake, California.
    Marye Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Vern in 2005; son, Monty in 1986; a grandson, Bill Marcus "Marc" Ennis, Jr.; and sisters, Patty Sykes and Betty Wesendunk.
    Survivors include daughters, Janet Ennis of Florence, OR and Wendy Ezell of Albany, OR; grandson Scott Christopher Ennis of Scottsdale AZ; nephew, Robert Sykes of Oakland, CA.
    She will be truly missed forever by her family and friends who she touched along the way.
    She always had a wonderful gift of giving in her life along with her lovely wit and smile.
