Keeping the West Kern Oil Museum humming is the goal of an Aug. 25 "FUNdraiser" being organized by former Taft resident Heather Fuller Passegger.
"Celebrating Home is helping the West Kern Oil Museum in Taft raise funds for maintaining and keeping your local museum running," she said. "This museum tells the rich history of Taft and all of Kern County with its multiple displays, pictures, field displays and lots more. If you have not been there it is an amazing museum. Upon entering you are greeted by a full-sized 'real' saber-toothed cat skeleton found in Kern County."
Passegger, whose mother Carolyn Fuller, is a volunteer at the museum, is calling the event a FUNdraiser "because it is just that – a fun night filled with bingo, quarter auctions, raffles and more."
The event will begin at 5 p.m. at the West Kern Oil Museum on Wood Street and features a variety of home decorating products.
"Thousands of dollars in prizes will be given away – all donated by your local merchants from Taft and Bakersfield," she said. "Also, you will get a chance to shop the current Celebrating Home Catalog (the new fall line is out) and 50 percent of all sales will go to the museum, so put your early holiday shopping hat on and get ready to make your purchases count.
"Do you know of any other company that you will shop with that will donate 50 percent to a local cause?"
The fund-raiser will include quarter auctions ("If you don't know what a quarter auction is, come and find out") and bingo.
Snacks and drinks will be provided.
All of the money generated by the $5 entrance fee goes to the museum. Bring at least one roll of quarters for the auction, Passegger suggests.
Call Carolyn Fuller (765-4642) to make a reservation.
"Walk-ins also are welcome," Passegger said.
