  • A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. for Jack L. Haliburton, 82. Rev. Tom White, pastor of Cuyama Assembly of God, will officiate the service. Mr. Haliburton was born in Taft on July 7, 1930 to parents Leslie (Bud) and Ivy A. (Sweatt) Haliburton, and passed away at his home in Taft on August 11, 2012. He had one sister, June (Haliburton) Linden and one niece, Judy (Linden) Griffin. Jack attended Taft schools, kindergarten through junior college. He graduated from Taft High School in 1948 having served as senior class president both semesters of senior year. He received the American Legion award at graduation. He received his AA degree from Taft College in 1950 and was Student Body Vice President the first year. He attended San Jose State College for one quarter as he was going to be drafted into the Army for two years. So, in February, 1951, he enlisted in the Air Force for four years, spending the first year going to school; first, basic training at Lackland Air Base, San Antonio, Texas. Next, it was aircraft and engine mechanics at Boston, Massachusetts. Then, aircraft electrician specialist school at Chanute Air Base in Illinois. In December, 1951 he was sent to Germany and assigned to Frankfurt Am Mein Air Force Base. He spent three years there as an aircraft electrician. He was honorably discharged in January, 1955 with the rank of Staff Sargent. Jack went to work for Standard Oil Co. on May 2, 1955 and held several positions: gas department maintenance, chemical lab tech, drafting, chemical group tech, reservoir engineering tech, computer programming tech, production engineering tech and production operations supervisor. He retired on August 1, 1990 after 35 years of service. Jack and Mary Colleen Matthews were married on May 21, 1955 and remained happily married for 42 years until her death in 1997. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Teresa Sue, Robert Leslie (who died at birth,) Michael Bryan and Kathleen Lori; two sons-in-law, Rick Gregory (Teresa) and Chris Isbell (Kathleen): one daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Ramshorn) Haliburton (Michael); six grandchildren, Joey Gregory, Meredith (Gregory) Seal, Aimee (Isbell) Ammeraal,Carissa Isbell and Ian and Trevor Haliburton; step-children, Debbie and Mark Hall, David and Cindy Sweeney; and 16 great-grandchildren. Jack married Sonia Schuster of Taft in 2008. This was a perfect match for both..
