Trial in death of 3-year-old boy delayed
- Dustin Wedel was supposed to go on trial this week in death of James Fanshier. Now trial will start in November.
The trial of a man accused of murdering a young Taft boy in 2011 has been postponed again, this time for three months.
Dustin William Wedel, 26, is charged with murder and child abuse in connection with James Fanshier, 3.
Wedel is accused of beating the boy to death.
He was scheduled to go on trial starting Monday but that was delayed until Nov. 26.
No reason for the delay was given.
The toddler died on Jan. 23, 2011 after Wedel's girlfriend, Stormey Roberts, then 20, who was the former girlfriend of Fanshier's father, called 911 seeking medical aid for the boy.
The child was living with Wedel and Roberts.
Roberts has not been charged in connection with the case.
Wedel was questioned that night but released, and arrested several months later after the autopsy results were released, finding that the boy was the victim of a homicide.
He is being held on $1million bail.
