The U.S. National Climate Data Center reported Monday that 2012 so far is the hottest year the U.S. has ever seen since records began being kept in 1895. The three seasons this year has seen have all been among the hottest ever, and combined, the temperatures are a record. Climate scientist Jake Crouch said, “We’re now, in terms of statistics, in unprecedented territory for how long this warm spell has continued in the contiguous U.S.”

Chicago Public Schools is the third largest system in the U.S. and about 350,000 students aren’t in school because of the dispute.
