Woman strangled, man charged with attempted murder
- Victim hospitalized after being choked in Ford City
Taft Police arrested a man on attempted murder charges after he allegedly tried to strangle his girlfriend early Saturday.
The woman was choked into unconsciousness during the attack on the 400 block of Fillmore street, Taft Chief of Police Ed Whiting said, and was hospitalized with injuries from the attack.
Police were called to the report of a fight at 419 Fillmore Street at 3:14 a.m. Saturday to assist Kern County Sheriff's deputies who were tied up on other calls, Whiting said.
They found the suspect, later identified as Alfredo Salvador Campos, 34, in the street.
Whiting said he originally gave them a false name and false information about a fight in the area.
Officers investigated, and found the victim, a woman approximately age 30 whose name is not being released.
Officers found she has been strangled and suffered "moderate injuries" Whiting said.
Whiting said she had been choked until unconscious and officers believe Campos was trying to kill her.
An ambulance was called and she was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital for treatment.
Campos was booked into the Taft Jail.
