Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run

A 19-year-old man was struck by a car in a hit-and run crash in Taft Sunday night and Taft Police are looking for the vehicle that hit him.
The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was hit in the 300 block of South Tenth Street about 10 p.m.
The victim suffered major injuries and was taken from the scene by ambulance to Taft Airport where he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to Kern Medical Center.
Taft Police Sgt. Ray Buford said the victim was walking northbound down Tenth Street at North Street across from the Kern County Fire Station when when was struck.
Witnesses told police the suspect vehicle, described as a dark colored older model (possibly 2000) 4-door car, possibly a Mitsubishi Galant, may have swerved towards the victim.
Buford said evidence indicates the victim may have been in the roadway when he was hit.
The vehicle continued north on Tenth Street and then turned east on Kern Street.
