Both teams win by a score of 9-0
Taft’s varsity girls’ tennis team beat Shafter, 9-0, here on Tuesday and Taft’s JV beat Shafter, 9-0, there.
Taft did not play varsity No. 1 Ana Estrada in the singles matches and still won 108-9 in games.
In the No. 1 singles match, Taylan Erro beat Ana Pedroza, 6-0, 6-2. Yeraldin Barrera beat Denisse Lorza, 6-1, 6-0. Diana Medina double bageled Sandra Perez, 6-0, 6-0. Gloria Hartley beat Dalia Hernandez, 6-1, 6-0. Lupita Lozano was the first off the court after double bageling Teresita Urias in record time, 6-0, 6-0. Number 9 Melissa Gore beat No. 6 Paulett Zavala, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Erro and Barrera double bageled Pedroza and Lorza, 6-0, 6-0. Estrada and Hartley beat Hernandez and Urias, 6-0, 6-1. Shafter only brought seven players and had to forfeit No. 3 doubles, but in an exhibition game, Roxi Barboza and JC Yarbrough beat Zavala and Juana Ramos, 6-0, 6-1.
Taft’s varsity improved to 8-0 in the South Sequoia League; 11-3 overall.
The JV contest mirrored the varsity results with straight single-set wins against Shafter. In games won, it was Taft 96 to Shafter’s 8.
In the top four singles matches, Haven Cook, Jen Rivera, Gloria Okafor and Maria Sanchez all won 12-0. Liliana Noriega and Karina Amaya each won 12-1.
In doubles, Cook and Noriega beat Bianca Zamora and Lizett Sanchez, 8-2. Number 4 Maria Sanchez and No. 7 Cassandra Toro beat No. 2 Carolina Espinosa and No. 6 Mckenzie Doudle, 8-2. Luz Cisneros and Lupe Saloman beat Grace Esparasa and Giselle Lopez, 8-2.
Taft’s JV improved to 7-0 in the SSL and 11-6 overall.
