Event will begin at noon at the skate park
Just in time for Halloween skating enthusiasts will get a chance to compete under a festive settingFriday, Oct. 6 with the Taft Skate Competition at the Taft Skate Park.
The founder of the event Kenny Havens got the idea by driving by the skate park.
“I drive by every day and see kids at the skate park know that not much has been done for them and I couldn’t help myself,” he said. “If we change one negative into a positive, we’ve done our job. It’s baby steps that change the world, starting with one kid at a time.”
It will cost $4 to compete and $2 to enter with free CD’s being given to every entry. Shirts cost $6. Prizes include things like skateboards, wheels and trucks.
The competition is open to age groups 10 and under 11-15 and 16 and up. Waivers must be signed and those under 18 years of age must wear a helmet. There will be different competitions like best trick and best three minute run. Food and drink will also be available.
There also be bands like Graveside Trauma, Mother Puncher, Devil In Us, Agony Follows and more.
The event will start at noon and will run until the park closes. It will also be held in a Halloween themed type setting.
This might not be the last time Havens will do this event.
“If it goes well, he wants to make it a yearly thing,” said Christine Havens.
Havens would also like to thanks Huddleston Crane, Jerry Melton Construction, Eric Cooper of True Value, Precision Bodyworks, Chris Payne of OT Steakhouse, the crew at Southwest Signs, Wavelengths, Abertsons, Marias, Gene Watson Custruction, Les Clark and the Rec Staff, Mark Nichols, Craig Patin of Moron Studios, Scott Rowson, Smion Faughn (the ring master), Sharon Havens, Zack Havens and Tyler Havens.
