Black-Gold Rush and the Taft Skate Competition will be taking place Saturday

Fall is one of two seasons where the sports scene really heats up.

That will be the case this Saturday when a pair of events will be taking place in Taft.

The first one starts in the morning with the Black-Gold Rush run at A Street Park. Registration for the event begins at 7:45 a.m. and runs until 8:20 a.m.

The first race (the 5K) will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the one mile run starting at 9 a.m.

Following the two races, the high school runners take over with the boys running their race at 10:15 a.m. with the girls running at 10:40 a.m.

At noon, the Taft Skate Competition will begin at the Taft Skate Park. It costs $2 to enter and $4 to compete.

There will be three age groups 10 and under, 11-15 and 16 and up. The event will run until the park closes. Bands will also be performing in a Halloween themed environment.

Along with the skate competition and the Black-Gold Rush run, there will also be West Side Junior Football League games at the Taft High track and the West Side Youth Soccer League at the soccer fields.
